Alma Chevere
Alma Chevere is a translation from Spanish for “Cool Soul”. LuiFox Gutierrez, founder, vocalist and main musician, started Alma Chevere in 2009. He had been a solo musician, as well as playing with different bands such as Alma Chevere for 7 years, Poema Flamenco for 20 years, but his love for sharing his passion, music and easy living was one he felt the constant need to share. A solo gig often ended with a group of talents sharing the stage as LuiFox would invite the many great musicians he surrounds himself with to join in on the fun and play with him. Far from just another jam session, these shows only highlighted the energy and beautiful sounds a good group of talented musicians can muster when skillfully lead and directed by LuiFox.
Good and close friends such as Karl Frostrup, Victor Fe and Rolando Hernandez were there almost every week, as with many others. It became evident that what made these shows so special was this combination of talents and good vibes as well as LuiFox's unforgettable singing. These shows were about peoples sharing their cool souls; Alma Chevere. Thus started the name and the band. The founding four, LuiFox, Karl Frostrup, Victor Fe and Rolando Hernandez have now expanded to include many more great people, and most importantly, great friends. This incredible fusion of energy has now made its fame through the city of Vancouver with the one constant that is to be seen and felt at every show; great energy and the feeling that tonight, was the best night ever!
LuiFox is always the main vocalist, and his repertoire comprises of over 80 songs, assuring there is a song for everyone and every occasion. His music can calm the soul and bring one nostalgically to tears or he can get a stadium full of peoples dancing all night. Depending on the occasion Alma Chevere can be just Luifox or a 10 piece band. Fiddles, cajon, guitar, ukelele, saxophones, all played with passion by musician full of love for music and easy living.
Though this unusual band's musicians come from all backgrounds and walks of life, they are all friends that share many of the same loves and hobbies. Other than music, what has united many in this group is also a shared passion for motorcycles, adventure, travelling and living life with an open mind. At several venues where they have played, Alma Chevere as a group, have ridden their motorcycles right up to the stage, carrying riders and instruments, including Karl Frostrups' entire drum set.
Some shows have been played in large venues in fancy dress, others in wilderness campsites after several kilometres of off road adventure. Alma Chevere is flexible and adaptable. Unlike many in the music industry, who have forgotten that music is felt, not just a business venture, Alma Chevere has never wavered from their original motivation as a band; music is their passion, played with love and spirit.
Every show is unique and every occasion with Alma Chevere is unforgettable. The philosophy by which they live is one that is contagious, and at the end of every show, all present will feel the passion of these cool souls!
